SteamPunk Fantasy

I'm glad you stopped in to read more about Kiri and I hope you share the post so your friends can learn about her, too! I had the honor of meeting this fellow Doce Blant author in September at our AuthorCon in LA and I loved her energy. Click over to her website and watch her video which will show you even more of what she is about. You'll enjoy the video.

Following her best friend’s suicide, Alyson Carroll descends into the realm of Dreams and Nightmares. In her quest to find home, she discovers that Charlie might not truly be gone after all, but when she meets Oswin, the prince of Terra Mirum, she must face her own fears and raise an army against The Nightmare Queen, or surrender as the world of dreams is consumed by terror and darkness forever.

Let's Pray for Peace....

My Heart Hurts
I hope you join me in offering up prayers for Orlando and the violence taking place there, for those killed and injured at the Pulse Bar and those left behind who lost a child, friend or loved one. Let's also pray for the killing of a young singer taken before her time because of a crazed fan and his selfish act.
I don't understand the need for so much killing and it still continues throughout the world, not just here in the US. Texas is also dealing with another hostage situation because of obvious suicidal tendencies and those who want to hurt others because they hurt.
Our police force and other first responders need our prayers also, that they may continue to protect us and stay safe themselves. Their families worry daily about their safety against the crazy people. May they all be watched over and protected as they do their jobs and put their own lives on the line for us.
When will all this stop so we can come together and live in peace? We shouldn't be afraid to travel or attend events in our own cities for fear of being shot at, killed, taken hostage or help someone commit a crime they think is necessary. Our world needs peace and right now, I'm not sure we'll ever see that....

What pulls you into a story?

Characters or locations?

Some stories and characters get stuck in our heads after we finish the books, making us hunger for more of what they're doing in the next book. This is because the setting pulled us in, the multi-faceted characters touched our hearts and the way they interacted with each other put us right into their group of friends. Once the story book is ended, we want to hang out with those characters again and hope another book comes out so we can rejoin them.
I've heard from so many readers that Kate and Taima did just this for them and they want to know what happened once they got back together in the present time. Thank you to those of you who write telling me how much you loved the story. I've included links on my website so all of you can see where the story took place, the house Brandon lives in, and the local of the Wind River Valley where the Shoshone Nation lived in 1835. The ties created between Kate and Taima bind them through time, but also pull the evil into the present to haunt and destroy them...or at least try. The love between Kate and Brandon began one hundred years before these two met and is strong enough to withstand any evil shape shifters from their past. I hope you click over to my website to see where all this happens and read an excerpt from the book.
I'm excited about this book for several reasons. First, I signed with a publishing company, Doce Blant Publishing, back in December and in January, the hard cover of Never Surrender was printed. As an author, I can't explain how happy I was to hold that first copy and now I can sign them for YOU! Visit the store at my website to order your copy today.
Second, I'm creating a candle scent with a company who does this for other books called Book Scents. The owner brings the scents in the books to life so the reader can smell the book as they read. Have you ever wondered what it would smell like to be in the story with the characters as they sit around a bonfire or walk through a forest...or a field of sagebrush? I'm sampling candle scents that she sent me, like pine, sage, leather and smoke, and soon we should have a candle just for the Surrender Series! I knoooow!
Third, my publisher asked my thoughts on a coloring book for the series. Now, this took me back a step, as I'd never entertained the idea of a coloring book, so I had to go see what the buzz was about. Adult coloring books relieve stress as we design our own colorful pictures from book series we enjoy or perhaps just peaceful designs, like butterflies or flowers. Well, I'm happy to tell you that very soon a coloring book for the Surrender Series will be available through my publisher, as well as your favorite online stores! I hope you enjoy the stress relief of my coloring book.
The sequel is half done and May is the month I will finish this book. You've all been waiting years for this and I will buckle into my chair and make it happen now that tax season is over. I've not been able to write since November and now is the time! Watch for the hard cover copy this summer!

New release from Charmaine Gordon!

Charmaine Gordon
I've been fortunate to be friends with this wonderful woman for several years now and I can't say enough about how I've enjoyed our friendship. Her phones make me smile and laugh each time we chat. Her stories pull together friends and family to include the relationships of her characters through more than one book. Please take a peek at her newest release and grab your own copy to show her some love this week. Join me in welcoming Charmaine for another visit to my blog. Leave a question or comment at the bottom. She'll be checking the post a few times to chat with you.

A wealthy couple, no children in sight, answer the door one day to find a replica of the woman living there, titian hair and all. Charlie is her name and so begins the story. Years later, Charlie’s young twin sisters, now seventeen, are rescued by the same couple with a big heart. It’s a tale of love and hearts that keep on giving.

Keep track of your expenses!

Excel Spreadsheets

Being in the tax business as well as being an author allows me to help my fellow writers get all the deductions they have coming. I recently had a client who needed help with keeping track of her expenses and couldn't afford an accounting software program. This led me to create an Excel sheet for her that she could use for several years and continue adding more sheets for upcoming years if it worked for her. Well, she loved it as it totaled each column as she entered her expenses.
This gave me the idea that perhaps others might find it useful, too. If you'd like to download your copy, you can find it on my website. Just scroll down to the tax section and click the Expense Sheet link. Be sure to click 'Enable Editing' so that you can begin using the sheet. Please leave a comment if you found the sheet helpful and then use the SHARE buttons at the bottom. I love helping other authors be efficient! Enjoy!

Winnin' O' The Green - $20 GC up for grabs!

 Winnin' o' The Green!

We all would love more green in our pockets and I'm giving each of you a chance to win some. Thank you for stopping in to play. One factor to getting more green in your pockets is to make sure you pay YOURSELF as you go through life. It's never too late to put money away for those days we all look forward to where we can sip Mai Tai's on the beach. In order for that to happen, you have to change your mind-set and consider yourself your number one employee. Your employer might pay you, but are YOU paying you by socking your money into a good investment? Your 401K is the best way, especially if your employer matches say 5% - If you're not investing at least that same 5%, they won't be either. They only match what you put in up to 5%. Yes it's that easy. The money goes into your 401K BEFORE taxes so you're only going to miss a few bucks in your check and now you've got double going into that 401K (because your employer is also putting in the other 5%!!) Come on, you can do it. Watch that money grow.

Never Surrender is in Hard Cover!

Never Surrender
Only 100 copies available!

I'm extremely excited about this new print version and want you to be excited. Doce Blant Publishing has done a great job and Fiona Jayde at Jayde Media created the new cover for me. Please know that the story inside has not changed! For those who've not yet read the story, please get your copy so you can meet Kate and Taima to learn how their relationship moves from rocky to warm and tender. Readers have told me they felt as though they were right there inside the book. There is no better feeling for an author than to know how much a reader loves your characters and your story.
There will only be 100 copies available. Each copy will be signed by me and numbered to make it extra special. You can order your copy from my webstore using Paypal and I'll get it sent to you via Priority Mail.

Give YOURSELF something for Valentine's Day!
The sequel is Final Surrender which takes Taima into the present as Brandon....oops, a bit of a spoiler for those who've not yet read the story, sorry. The shape shifters and demons follow them into the present through time. The sequel has already made me cry as I work through the edits and I can't wait for all of you to read the sequel. Yes, I've been working on it for a few years, life has gotten in the way, as well as work and travel, but know that progress is being made! Thank you for your patience.

Have questions on writing, publishing or marketing? Check out this chat event!

Doce Blant, my new publisher, is having the second day of their Q & A on Jan 15th from 4 - 8:00 PM PST (7-12:00 PM EST) on FaceBook's event page. If you're an author or aspiring writing and have questions about marketing or publishing, stop by The Q & A Event late Friday afternoon. Click over there and join the event, let them know you'll be attending! I'll try to pop in when I get a few minutes away from my desk at the office! Don't miss this event!
Thursday's event was loaded with great questions and informative answers for marketing on social networks, what pulls in readers, what doesn't and the type of content to use.
New authors have so many questions about these two topics and no one has the right answers because social media changes on a weekly basis. What worked last year won't work this year and what worked last month may not work this month. The algorithms continue to change by Google, Facebook, and any other network out there. I also have a help page on my website for authors, from editing to writing to taxes. Feel free to click over there and grab more information.

See you at the event!
